Our business hours are from 8:00 a.m. to 5:00 p.m., Monday through Friday. Emergency calls are taken 24-hours a day at 255-7871. Occasionally, the office closes for training and/or other special purposes. Notice of such is posted in the front door window stating when the office will reopen.

2. How do I establish new service?

New customers may come by the business office at 16318 Great Oaks Drive (located on Great Oaks Drive, next to the fire station) to fill out the paperwork and pay the deposit. Or call 255-7871 x502 to pay by credit card. A $100.00 deposit is required of all customers. There is also a non-refundable administration fee of $25.00. The $100.00 deposit will be refunded after the account is closed, provided there is no balance due on the account.

If the customer is moving into a new home (still in the builder's name) a call should be placed to the office to make sure a Water & Wastewater Certificate of Occupancy has been issued. Customer's should not move into a home where a Water and Wastewater Certificate of Occupancy has not been issued.

3. When is the water bill due?

Group 1 - water bills are due the 15th of each month. Group 2 - water bills are due the 1st of each month. If the due date falls on a weekend or holiday, the payment is then due by 8:00 a.m. on the first business day following the holiday or weekend. Please note that failure to receive your bill does not negate the fact that it is due. If you have not received your bill, please call 255-7871 x502 and they can tell you the amount due.

A penalty of 15% of the current balance is added when an account becomes delinquent. When a customer's account is 6 to 7 days past due, a delinquent notice will be sent. If payment is not made by the due date on the delinquent notice, the water will be turned off. There is a $25.00 reconnect charge. It is against the rules and regulations to turn your water back on yourself after being disconnected for non-payment of your bill.

District Adds Fees for Late Payment of Utility Bills

EFFECTIVE AUGUST 1, 2007

On August 1, 2007, utility customers that fail to pay their bill by the due date will be subject to a $25 fee.  This fee is in addition to the 15% late charge currently charged on accounts for late payments.  Service re-connect fees have also been increased.

Currently, customers whose payments are late are charged a fee equivalent to 15% of the outstanding balance the next business day following the due date.  The new $25 fee will be applied to accounts whose bill is still unpaid 15 days following the due date.  If accounts are still not paid 20 days following the due date, the customer's water will be disconnected.  The re-connect service charge is $30 during business hours and $75 for after hours.

The new fees are only applicable to customers that do not pay their utility bills by the due date.

If you have questions about the utility rates or fees, please call the District Utility office at 255-7871, option 1.

Installation Permits Frequently Asked Questions

1. What are the requirements for installing a water softener?

Brushy Creek Municipal Utility District (Brushy Creek MUD) requires that any company installing a water softener or any other water treatment device in the District provide a bond to the District office. This requirement insures that the company which installs your water softener will take out a permit and do the installation properly within the rules and regulations of the District. These regulations are those of the Uniform Plumbing Code and are designated to keep sewage from possibly contaminating your softener and drinking water. If the installation is done by a company not bonded with the District, the resident risks disconnection of water service.

It is our policy not to recommend any particular company. We have found that most companies servicing our customers are willing to provide a bond to the District and install their equipment under the rules and regulations of the District.

Please call the MUD office at 255-7871 if you plan to have a water softener installed, we will tell you whether or not the company you have selected is bonded with the District.

2. What are the requirements for installing a sprinkler system?

Brushy Creek Municipal Utility District (Brushy Creek MUD) requires that any company installing a sprinkler system in the District provide a bond to the District office. This requirement insures that the company which installs a sprinkler system will take out a permit and do the installation properly within the Rules and Regulations of the District. Residents may install a lawn sprinkler themselves. A bond is not required for homeowners, however a permit is required.

Permits may be obtained at the District office. Or from this website, www.brushycreekmud.com . The permit is $20.00. Residents will have ten (10) days after installation to call the District office for an inspection. There is no charge for the inspection.

Utilities and Water Frequently Asked Questions

1. What are the water and wastewater rates?

The water rates for a standard household meter are:
$14.00 minimum
$2.75 per 1,000 gallons from June-September
$2.10 per 1,000 gallons from Oct-May

The sewer rates for a standard household meter are:
8.00 minimum
1.90 per 1,000 gallons

Audited average of 7,000 gallons is used until winter average is established.

Brushy Creek MUD uses a sewer average of four (4) months water consumption. The months used to average the sewer rates are November through February of each year. Residents can control their annual bills to some extent by being very conservative during these four months. Upon request, a six month consumption history may be used to adjust your bill below the 7,000 gallon district average.

2. Who do I call if I have a water leak?

Brushy Creek MUD is responsible for maintenance and repair of its water and sewer mains throughout the District. The District's mains run to the meter from the street. The resident is responsible for any leaks from the meter to the house. District employees cannot repair your plumbing or fix leaks on your property. If you have a problem, please call a plumber.

If you see a leak at the meter and cannot tell whether it is on the District's side or your side, please call us and we will check it to determine whose problem it is. Anytime you notice water running in the street, please call 255-7871. If it is after hours, the answering service will take the call and notify the proper personnel. Water leaks cost everyone!

3. What is the hardness of the water?

Customers will ask what the hardness of the water is so they can set their softeners properly. The latest laboratory report indicated that the hardness of the District's water is 255 milligrams (mg) per liter (255mg/l). or approximately 15 grains. The laboratory reports will list the hardness of the water in milligrams, but the softener companies want the hardness in grains. There is a formula for converting milligrams to grains. That formula is: Hardness X .0584=grains.
