2015 Trout Fishing Derby
Our 2015 Trout Fishing Derby, held on January 19, 2015, was a huge success! If you were a participant, thank you for attending and helping make this event so fun! If you weren't able to make it this year, we hope you can come out for our next Derby.
Texas Parks and Wildlife Department (TPWD) stocked the Shirley McDonald pond with 300 rainbow trout on January 15, 2015. At the Derby, approximately 40 fish were caught, mostly rainbow trout and two channel catfish.

If you are patient while fishing, you should continue to catch trout in the pond. They need to be fished out before the water temperature exceeds 70 degrees Fahrenheit, usually around April. The daily limit is five rainbow trout (this pond is a community fishing lake so the regulations from TPWD are slightly different for a few species). The trout caught at the Derby ranged from 7.5" to 12". The catfish were 16"-17". No sunfish were caught at the Derby but were stocked in the pond last spring to create a breeding population. The species are red ear, bluegill and red bellied/breasted. Regulations
